Diy Planter Kit Instructions

  1. Unscrew the mason jar collar and carefully remove the net cup from the jar and set aside
  2. Remove the paper filling, seeds and nutrient bottles from inside the jar then replace the net cup
  3. Remove the black neoprene collar from the top of the net cup so that you can see the rockwool cube
  4. Pour approximately 2 ½ cups of water (for small kits), 5 cups of water (for large kits), or 1 ½ cups of water (for kids kits) over the rockwool cube so that it is completely saturated then place 2-3 seeds on top of the rockwool cube and replace the black collar
  5. Place the jar in a sunny window (or under grow lights) with the watering strip facing away from the window. Check your seeds periodically over the course of the next 7-14 days to see if they’ve germinated. If your rockwool cube begins to look dry, pour about two tablespoons of water onto to the top of the cube. When your seeds have germinated, leave the black collar off of the jar so that your new seedlings can receive sunlight
  6. Once your seedling is tall enough the clear the rim of the jar, carefully wrap the black collar around the stem of your seedling. If more than one seedling germinated, keep the healthiest looking seedling and remove the rest.
  7. Over the course of the next 1-3 weeks (this depends on plant variety), periodically check the bottom of the net cup by either using the watering strip, or by removing the net cup. When you can see roots poking out, dump the water out and add another 2 ½ cups (or 5 cups for large kits and  1 ½ cups for kids kits) of water into the empty jar.
  8. Pour the entire contents of the Nutrient Solution A&B bottles into jar and mix the contents.
  9. Replace the net cup and put your planter back in the sunny window.
  10. Watch your plant grow and harvest as needed!

Refill Instructions

The water in your hydroponic planter should be refilled when either the water in the jar is nearly empty or has been in use for 2-3 weeks. For Decorative vases, we recommended a 1-2 week cycle or when algae growth begins to be apparent. Distilled water is preferred since it is pH neutral and is pure water, but tap water will work as well.

  1. Carefully remove your plant and dump the existing water out. We suggest rinsing out the jar with some water before refilling
  2. Add new water to your empty jar (2 cups for small kits, 4 ½ cups for large kits, 1 ½ for kids kits, 13 cups for 8″ vases, & 1 Gallon for 11″ vases ).
  3. Pour the entire contents of the Nutrient Solution A&B and gently mix the contents.
  4. Replace the net cup and put your planter back in the sunny window and enjoy!

Hydroponic Microgreens Instructions

  2. Rinse the seeds in the net cup with cool water. Afterwards, try to make sure that the seeds a reasonably spread apart.
  3. Pour approximately 2 cups of water into the mason jar and place the net cup into the jar.  The water in the jar should be just touching the bottom of the net cup. Optionally, fasten the mason jar ring back onto the jar.
  4. Place the jar in a sunny area (or under grow lights) and wait. Within 24-36 hours, you should see that your microgreens have germinated.

HARVESTING YOUR MICROGREENS

After 7-10 days, your microgreens are ready to harvest.

  1. Remove the net cup from the jar and use a knife to cut the roots off the bottom of the net cup.
  2. Remove the microgreens from the net cup and use a knife to cut the ends off of the microgreens.
  3. Rinse your microgreens with water and enjoy in a salad, on a sandwich, or however you please!

To clean your net cup, hand wash with warm soapy water. The net cup is not dishwasher safe.
